Who is better Batsman: Virat Kohli or Steve Smith?

It has become a hot topic recently isn't it ?? Owing to the fabulous centuries from Smith in the inaugural match of Ashes . Boy did he play well ! And most importantly he provided an invaluable lead to his team in the series .

Kohli too scored his 43th ODI ton which made every one go Wow!!

Now I am an Indian fan but I would try my best to present this on a neutral ground . So if you feel it a little biased just cope with it . Let's compare these two in each format -

1.T20

Steve Smith - He is not such a big name in T20' s right now but you might have forgotten that's where he came from . Yes!! First I saw him  playing at no.7 as an all rounder - a pinch hitter and a leggie. Who would have thought he would become such a great player ?? Well I did !! No one believes it but I predicted he would soon be a sensation . Coming to the stats - he is not as potent as he used to be . He has a good average nonetheless though with a strike rate under 130 . Yet he is a player I wouldn't bother to have in my squad .

Virat Kohli - Let me put this straight - Who the hell keeps an average of 49.5 in T20I's . I mean seriously people strain to keep that in ODI'S forget about having it in T20's . That too at an impressive strike rate of 135 . I know he is not the guy for hitting centuries in 36 balls . But he is the guy who would hit 50’s in almost every match while your other hitters can strike with liberty .
Hence in T20's now - I would pick Virat Kohli any day any time over Steve Smith .

2. ODI's

Steve Smith - I feel we are yet to see his best in ODI'S . He has been outstanding in the recent past thought but still we miss the zeal often . His career before his transformation deteriorates his stats a bit - an average of 41.4 with a strike rate of 86 . He has struck 8 centuries and 23 fifties till now . What I like thhough in his ODI game is his a ability to stand out for his team in difficult situations. That's what makes him special . Yet as stated before I would like to see more from him in this .

Virat Kohli - Let me put this straight again - It would take 84 ducks for Virat Kohli to match the likes of Steve Smith in this format . If his T20 stats look overwhelming then you are in for a ripper . Have a look at his ODI stats .
230 innings - 11520 runs , 54 fifties and 43 hundreds !!

And if this doesn't amaze you - a staggering average of 60.30 . It makes me wonder if anyone's worth comparing to him right now in ODI'S .

He is the king here !! There's others playing ODI'S and there's Virat Kohli playing ODI .

3. Tests
source
Steve Smith - Now enough Kohli !! This is his arena and he rules here . It's true that he hasn't played as much as Kohli has but whatever he has played he did it like a boss. He has the second best average at 62.96 after sir Don Bradman's 99.96 . This sums up all isn't it . His unorthodox style , people calling his batting ugly and unpleasant to watch - Well he has risen above all , even his fellow competitors I think . He is on a whole different level there .

Virat Kohli - Don't be misled here that Kohli doesn't play well in tests . But it takes a player of Smith's caliber to overshadow his stats . With an average of above 53 Kohli still is among the best in business . He has now showed his class almost everywhere across the globe . He can hit hundreds and he can hit double hundreds . We can't really complain here can we . His stats would look even better if we just saw the last 5 years because his start wasn't so great But we can't ignore it either that’s what made him into what he js today .

I think Virat Kohli is better than Smith in ODI'S and T20'S but in tests we gotta admit that Smith is a notch higher . They both have already become legends of their game having their own style and elegance . Their passion and commitment to the sports is a thing to behold .So don't compare or make me do so . Just sit back and enjoy these masterpieces .
